Trials Evolution Review
‘The Evolution of Trials HD’
Trials Evolution is a much-anticipated sequel to the insanely popular Trials HD for the Xbox 360 game marketplace. Most 360 players can recall spending hours grinding their teeth trying to gold star every level. Apart from angry dentists this proved to be a winning formula.
This time you find yourself out in the wilderness, racing your friends against the clock. It’s a great change from the plain, boring warehouse from Trials HD. The environments look amazing, and they are varied throughout the Trial experience. One track you may be in the middle of a battlefield; then you’re climbing massive wooden ramps in a jungle village. Trials visuals are certainly on form.
But not everything is an evolution of the first game, the controls are the same, and you are spending hour’s tilting left to right. This is great if you crave the controls but it can become samey after the tenth time on one track.
Apart from looking great Trails evolution is accompanied with a great sound track. Its slick style of music really sets the mood which the game is setting. The songs are mixed up throughout the game but you will definitely hear each song more than once.
If you like online competition, Trials Evolution will see you right. There are two all new racing game types. Up to four players side by side can race through new and exciting tracks which can’t be found anywhere else in the game. Super cross is where you are put into heats, battling it out for the top spot, winning rewards you with money that can be spent on upgrades for your bikes. This reward pushes the player to do as well as possibly and after winning a super cross you feel well rewarded. The second flavour is trials mode, this is when you are on a prober trials tracks and racing against ghostly opponents to spur you on, this offers a new touch to the ghost racing in other games. But not everything is great about the multiplayer. The multiplayer loading screen if floored, it can take time and effort to find a game, this can cause rage quitting. This doesn’t add to the trials experience.
At a price of only 1200 Microsoft points’ Trials Evolution’s is very similar to its predecessor, it slowly digs its claws into you, but some of its thrills are just too similar to Trial HD, even with addition of user submitted tracks. This is a well done squeal and it has the right to the Trials name.
